Damp Proofing

Types Of Damp & How To Treat Them

  • There are 3 main types of damp
  • Condensation
  • Rising damp
  • Penetrating damp

Condensation Problems

A very common type of damp which occurs when warm moist air inside your home comes into contact with colder surfaces often windows and exterior walls showing signs of water droplets and small puddles of water on window sills are a common sign. This environment is perfect for mould growth. The main contributor to this problem is high moisture in the air due to the following.

  1. Cooking (boiling potatoes etc)
  2. Drying damp clothes on radiators
  3. Lack or under performing ventilation
  4. Lack or missing insulation
  5. Not having adequate heating

Penetrating Damp

This basically means water moving through/down a wall due to leaking pipes, blocked gutters, earth or ground higher than dpc level, cracks in wall surfaces blocked cavities cause damp to bridge.
